Totoro escaped his pen last night! I normally check on him about - TopicsExpress

Totoro escaped his pen last night! I normally check on him about every 15-30 minutes when he is grazing outside and bring him in as the sun sets. Last night he was doing fine before dinner and when I went to check on him after dinner he was gone! My husband and I searched frantically in what little daylight we had left. My husband was using hedge trimmers to clear away brush so we could get to where he was likely hiding, I was pulling up piles of vines and thorns, crawling under bramble on my hands and knees with a flashlight in my mouth. Finally we had to admit temporary defeat. I worried about him all night. I knew the temperature for the next few days was perfect for a sulcata, and he was large enough that predators should be no problem, but I worried about him getting stuck in the vines and thorns, or, if we didnt find him soon, wandering off our property. I had to leave before it was fully light for work so I couldnt do a thorough search for him in the morning. My hope was that he would come out to bask and graze, but with my husband and I both at work, what if he got too warm and went back into hiding for a snooze? Fortunately, my husband was able to get off a couple hours early, and came home to find Totoro, as he put it, Face first in a pile of clover So happy my baby is back. He does have some small scratches on his shell no doubt from thorns but his skin and eyes look fine. Going to be buying my baby a special treat for coming back!
