Tourism to Egypt has been hard hit by political turmoil, dating back to the first revolution of 2011. Some tour operators have already started to cancel flights to the capital Cairo and Luxor, which were showing signs of recovery following the army coup. It has been estimated that over US$ 900 million has been lost in tourism revenue. The Association of British Travel Agents have estimated that most British people who still want to travel to Egypt will stay in Red Sea resorts such as Sharm el-Sheikh which is renowned for its low crime rate.
