Tracing Figures is now a 5-piece with the addition of our newest member, the incredible bassist Ed Lipton! Born and raised in the San Francisco Peninsula, Ed has been playing bass in a wide range of musical styles since forming his first band in high school, a short lived but locally beloved punk outfit, FECES. He pursued his undergraduate studies at UC Davis, and while there played in the metal band Soma Holiday. He then moved to Chicago to attend medical school, and while there played Dead and Phish covers with Neural Groove. During his residency in emergency medicine at Cook County Hospital, Ed joined an established “dramatic alternative art-rock” band, Fate Saved Us. While playing in Chicago, Ed met his wife, Johanna. After 4 years, two studio recordings, and many shows at some of the premier Chicago live music venues (as well as many odd gigs in art museums, book stores and a political fundraiser in a Chinese restaurant), Ed and his wife Johanna moved back to the Peninsula to start a family. He stayed musically engaged by playing with Wave Motion Gun, a rock and metal cover band from 2004-2012. A proud father of 3 beautiful children, William, Olivia, and Elizabeth, Ed also supports his children’s musical pursuits in their bands WJM, and The Darts. He is now thrilled to be bringing his energy, experience, and enthusiasm to support the low-end sonic spectrum to the lush soundscapes of Tracing Figures. We are so thrilled to have Ed on board. Please give him a warm welcome, and we are looking forward to our upcoming shows, soon to be announced.
