He has raced both sprint cars and midgets at the track and has been victorious in the sprinters. The veteran driver will spend the next couple weekends at Canyon, first competing in a sprint car this weekend, followed by a stint in a midget next weekend. The 14th Annual USAC Hose Advantage Hall of Fame Classic is set for Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15 at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona. The event serves as the finale for both the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series and the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. “It sounds like they put a wall all the way around the track, so that will change the racing line around the top a little bit,” said Hines, who drive The Carolina Nut Company DRC. “We have a good set-up for there and will have to adjust that a touch to compensate for the changes to the track. Canyon is usually a pretty racy track and there will be a great field of cars with the west coast drivers on hand.” Last year in the Hall of Fame Classic at Canyon Speedway Park, Hines finished second on both nights. In the finale, he started on the pole and led the opening circuit before eventual winner Chase Stockon got around him. In the 2013 Hall of Fame Classic opener at Canyon, Hines lined up seventh and steadily worked his way forward in the 30-lap contest to finish in the runner-up position. Hines also raced in the West World Championships at Canyon Speedway Park in 2013, finishing sixth or better in four of the five feature races he took part in. With the Honda USAC National Midget Series, he crossed the line fourth in the finale, following a sixth-place effort on the opening night and a 13th-place showing on the second night of the three-night contest. In addition, Hines raced in the USAC West Coast 360/Southwest Sprints combination event. With the field split into two qualifying nights, he ran second on the second night and was fifth in the 30-lap finale. The native of New Castle, Indiana, made his debut at Canyon Speedway Park in 2011. He was victorious at the track three times during the 2012 edition of the Winter Freeze, which was held in January of that year. Last weekend, Hines competed in the Budweiser Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway in Southern California. He finished 14th on the opening night and was caught up in an accident in the finale and wound up crossing the line 17th. “Ending the sprint car season on a strong note is the key for this weekend,” Hines said. “The ideal situation would be to pick up two wins, but two solid showings that would give us a lift going into the off-season would work as well. With the past success we’ve had at Canyon we feel like we have a good baseline to get us going there.” Entering the Hall of Fame Classic, Hines is sixth in points with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series, on the strength of one win, along with 18 top-10 finishes.
