Traders, artisans shut down shops in Port Harcourt, celebrate Wike for Rivers State Governor Thousands of traders and artisans shut down their shops on Friday as they poured out into the streets of Port Harcourt for the commissioning of New Rivers Vision Campaign Office for the election of Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to revive Rivers State after years of misgovernance. The traders and artisans sang several pro-Wike campaign songs, leading him from the Campaign Office to the venue of the rally. It was a carnival-like celebration as the traders declared that on no ground should the APC be allowed to continue govern Rivers State. At the venue of the rally, the Port Harcourt Council of Chiefs led by Chief Chris Wonodi endorsed Barrister Wike to served as the next governor of Rivers State and blessed him with the required traditional rites. Addressing the delegates and party leaders, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Rivers PDP Governorship Aspirant, said his strategy is to rely on delegates and the Rivers People to win back the Government House, PortHarcourt. He said: We are not fighting any ethnic war, neither are we fighting an upland-riverine war. We are struggling to ensure that PDP returns to Government House. We cannot afford to lose the forthcoming election. That is why we cannot afford to field a candidate who lacks the capacity to deliver the party during the election. I have always been a PDP member since 1998 and I have been a committed member dedicated to the growth of the party and Rivers State. We are united across the state to deliver the party in 2015. We are not moved by the distractions. Our focus is to win in 2015 and set development in motion. Minister of Sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo said that all Rivers Indigenes moved rise up and defend Rivers State by chasing out the failed outgoing government and vote in an authentic PDP government led by Barrister Wike. He said that all institutions of government have failed in Rivers State, with judiciary and legislature shut down by the outgoing administration for the purpose of allowing the administration cart away the resources of the state without checks and balances. Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator George Sekibo noted that PDP will never be swayed by the ethnic sentiments being preached will not work as Rivers people have decided to vote in a competent man, Nyesom Wike. Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara, member representing Port Harcourt Constituency 1, Mr Ken Chikere and member Representing, Port Harcourt Constituency 2, Mrs Blessing Nsiegbe in their separate speeches announced the endorsement of Barrister Nyesom Wike as the preferred governorship candidate of PDP in Rivers State.
