Training our minds to be steady, clear and absorbed in the Heart, - TopicsExpress

Training our minds to be steady, clear and absorbed in the Heart, we conquer distraction, laziness and shallow ambitions. We learn to drop the habit of negative thinking which acts as a chloroform on the mind, destroying its powers of focus and inner absorption. For many of us, our tendency towards distraction is so ingrained that we hardly notice ourselves succumbing. Fear, anger and spiritual laziness warp our minds and form our response to life in such a way that we are quick to give in to the extreme narrowness of our worldview—a narrowness we embrace, but often fail to recognize. Facing each new challenge with great confidence, we quickly dissolve these patterns of unconscious reactivity. Through profound self-inquiry, we are able to heal ourselves of ignorance and illusions. Only then are we able to remain alert long enough to hear the knock that comes to the door of the Heart. We must keep our lamps burning as we await the Messenger who will guide us to intimate Union, who has come to invite us to the Wedding Feast. For, when we are absorbed in the embrace of our Beloved, even the bitter becomes sweet! When we recall our all-beautiful Beloved, we are happy to forego anger by enduring insults, rise above old memories which incites terror, and choose to remain poised even after a day seemingly filled with disaster! Each such miracle evolves from a Heart that has met with the Beloved. Bitterness has nowhere to hook onto the Heart purified by inner union, and misery falls away like water off of a ducks back. Again, love is the key, and direct-inquiry the guide to the innermost Heart, the Beloved and Lover in divine ecstasy! Into the Heart, 139, MPC
