Trajan may be best known for his epic conquests in Dacia, Armenia, Arabia and Mesopotamia, but he was far from just a military man. While its may trace to his predecessor and the Chinese had a similar system, Trajan initiated a welfare programme for poor children and orphans called the Alimenta.
