Transport Workers United has recognized for a long time that TWU Local 100 is a company Union under John Samuelsen. Management has no right to put out a video about our labor struggles and then blow off the 2005 strike with the blessing of John Samuelsen. They have been steadily writing the significance of our strike out of the history books and thereby disrespecting our legacy. Arthur Clements of Stations Dept. writes, Watching this video is breathtaking. This piece of propaganda is a tacit no, explicit admission that we no longer have an independent union but are now a company union with management shills instead of labor leaders running TWU Local 100. Pay particular attention to the last 4 minutes. It is absolutely amazing to realize that Sonny Hall was, in fact, still the president of TWU International at the time and tacitly admits what we thought, namely that (TWU International President) Mike OBrien was nothing but a puppet. And, of course, there was no discussion of the terms of the strike settlement from 2005. And no comments from Roger Toussaint, the President of TWU Local 100, at the time, who went to jail as per the draconian, apartheid style Taylor Law of New York State.
