Travelling back to the office after the Ash Wednesday service I witnessed a horrific accident. Walking down the stairs to the Northern Line platform at Tottenham Court Road Station, you enter the platform level with the beginning of the tunnel that the front of the train drives in to. Halfway down the stairs I heard blood-curdling screams which sounded like something from a horror film. A woman was lying on the ground, surrounded by a crowd, the train was half a carriage within the tunnel, but now stopped. She had been running to get into the train as the doors were closing, her wrist was caught in the door and the train started to move into the tunnel. She was dragged along and slammed into the wall at the end of the platform. 15 minutes later the train moved off, the crowd dispersed. I have no idea of the outcome but I cant believe she survived.
