Tri-County Electric Cooperative had their annual meeting this past - TopicsExpress

Tri-County Electric Cooperative had their annual meeting this past Saturday and members were updated on the organization’s financial condition and other items. General Manager Marcia Scott said that the cooperative is in good financial position. The year 2013 ended with ample margins to meet required ratios, and the cooperative is on track to meet them in 2014. Stable rates are expected in 2015 with no rate adjustment. The co-op continues to refund patronage credits, returning margins from the years 1986 and 1987. If you didn’t go to the meeting, those checks will be arriving in the mail soon. Scott discussed operational improvements. Members can now pay their bills by phone 24 hours per day, and the SmartHub phone app is now available so outages can be reported more conveniently from members’ smart phones. To boost reliability, the co-op is continuing its proactive and aggressive line clearance program, as well as pole inspection and replacement and infrastructure improvements. Additional lightning arresters are being installed, and pole bands are also being installed to reduce outages caused by squirrels. Scott said that while they are working to reduce outages they can control, the weather is something they can’t control. The Tri-County Electric system sustained considerable damage from an EF4 tornado in November, and the heavy snow and ice, combined with high winds and bitter temperatures in January caused outages and made travel difficult and dangerous for co-op employees as they restored power.
