Tribalism in 2015 Am not Tonga and neither do I have any roots in Southern Province except that I went to one of Zambias best High Schools located Livingstone but I must say this, the source and encouragers of tribalism has not been ordinary voters from Southern Province but its been the media and some politicians who have been calling Tongas tribal. If you amplify that easterners are tribal and you religiously preach that each and every day, I have no option as an Easterner but to vote for my tribesman so I can satisfy your ego. Fact. How also did you expect people to vote based on issues when all candidates had no issues but same old campaign lies? The only thing that stood distinct is that HH is standing on a party founded by leaders largely thought to be Tongas and Edgar Lungu is standing on a party that is considered to have been founded largely by Bembas? Those who are close to Tongas supportted HH and those close to Bembas supported Edgar Lungu. MPs from one party supported another not because they share a common belief or have same ideologies but it was merely about politics of convenience or political survival and you expect our grand mothers and kinsmen in different provinces to vote based on issues? What issues? Voting or supporting a candidate is slowly getting tribal or which tribe you feel close to. Dont blame any one tribe for this kind of scenario we have all found ourselves in. Blame the media and a politician for this bad attitude. Its like what everyone used to think about a person who used to hail from Mumbwa, at Mumbwa, Mumbwa to mean some dull and illiterate chap and that was passed from one generation to another. But truth be told that Mumbwa has to date produced very fine and intelligent persons than most of us. So every time you repeat something negative in the person or group, even calling PF like Panga Family, u write it on the mind of some people and you move those who may agree with u but hate your vilifying PF to give them a vote.
