Tribute To Late Gov. Cliff Finch A couple miles south of Batesville on southbound Interstate 55 is a wonderful rest area that is a tribute to former Governor Cliff Finch who was from Batesville. Nicely kept with an inviting atmosphere, the rest stop recognizes the man who came for obscurity to win the Governors Office as the working mans candidate. Cliff drove bulldozers, dug ditches and wore yellow hard hats doing manual labor as part of his campaign that was a landslide victory. He was governor from 1976-1980. The market at the rest stop states Buoyed by hard work and eternal optimism, Cliff saw every man a friend.
