Tributes have been paid to the motorcyclist killed in a road traffic collision near Monkstown last week. Forty-six-year-old Jim McTier from Mossley died in the crash at the Monkstown Road/Doagh Road junction on Friday, November 15. He suffered fatal injuries when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a car shortly before 7am. The Monkstown Road and Doagh Road were closed off for a time while the emergency services attended the scene. Family and friends gathered at Roselawn Crematorium on Tuesday afternoon (November 19) for Mr McTier’s funeral service, which was conducted by Mary Henderson from Newtownabbey Methodist Mission. Originally from the Shankill area of Belfast, Mr McTier worked for Four Seasons Healthcare as a chef at Edenmore Care Home in Jordanstown. Paying tribute to their colleague, a company spokesman said: “Our thoughts go out to Jim’s family and friends during this deeply tragic and upsetting time. “Jim joined Edenmore Care Home in 2009 and was a popular member of the team. He was a great asset and will be sorely missed. We will help support staff during this time of grievance.” Friends of the popular care home employee, who is survived by his wife, Helen, have also expressed their sorrow at his tragic death in a series of online posts. One tribute left on the Newtownabbey Times Facebook page read: “The nicest funniest guy u wud ever meet :-( RIP Jim the brightest star in the sky.” Another message read: “RIP Jim McTier you were one in a million words can’t describe the sadness people are feeling today for you and your family. You really were one of life’s true gents.” Expressing his condolences, Councillor Tom Campbell said: “This is very sad news and my thoughts are with the victim and his family at this tragic time. “I would urge all road users to exercise caution when on the road, especially in coming months as winter road conditions can be treacherous. One death on the road is too many.” Meanwhile, police officers investigating the crash have renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward. Investigating officers have appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who was travelling or walking on either the Monkstown Road or Doagh Road just before 7am last Friday, to contact them at the Collision Investigation Unit on 0845 600 8000.
