Tributes paid to police officer who has died off duty Sad news about the death - off duty - of police officer PC Steve Salmean this past weekend. Thoughts with his family, friends and colleagues. PC Salmean, 50, of Police Scotland, fell ill while cycling near Little Ballo, Abernyte, Perthshire shortly after 10am on Saturday. The father of two had 27 years police service, initially beginning his career in the Metropolitan Police before transferring to Tayside Police in 1993 where he has worked as a beat officer. His wife Allison is a serving sergeant with Police Scotland. David Hamilton, Chair of the Scottish Police Federation’s North Area Committee said, “Steve was a very popular officer and known to many of us across the region. He was extremely professional and an absolute gentlemen – it was a privilege to have worked with him. Steve will be sorely missed by all his colleagues and our thoughts are with Allison and their family.” Assistant Chief Constable Bernard Higgins of Police Scotland paid tribute to PC Salmean and said: “Steve was a highly respected officer, extremely well liked by his colleagues and always thoroughly professional in his work. “His death is a great tragedy and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
