(Trigger for violence, rape) Do you know what I would like? I would really like men to acknowledge - just once, just to let us know they actually GET IT - that a huge number of men regularly bash the women they live with. That a large number of men think its permissable to rape their partners. That in Australia (pop approx 24 million) at least 52 of them per year, think its also OK to kill their partners - and often, their children as well.. I would like men to recognise: That more men than do not, consider women to be inferior simply because they CAN rape or bash them - and get away with it. I would like them to know what it feels like to be beaten - to endure the agony of deep bruising, sprained joints, broken bones, burned flesh, torn muscles - and to know it was inflicted by someone from whom they have been taught to expect love and affection. I would REALlY like the not all men apologists to spend some time on duty as ambos, or in ER wards. They would be quite surprised to find what kindof men do these things - its not the psychologically damaged, the emotionally unstable, the mentally ill - its the driver on the bus that took them to work this morning, its that bloke they drink with down the pub, and that guy from work whos such a hoot with his rape jokes, or their own doctor, or the lawyer they consulted last week. Even the teacher into whose care theyve just entrusted their children. These are the men who beat up their partners, stalk them when they try to escape, intimidate them with threats of yet more abuse - and at least once every week in Australia, kills them with their own hands. These are the men the not all men apologists do not know about - or would prefer to pretend do not exist. These are the ordinary blokes who think its OK to inflict grievous bodily harm upon a woman because they have the power to get away with it.
