Tropical Storm Polo is moving northwest off of the coast of Mexico, centered at 5 p.m. EDT / 2 p.m. PDT about 175 west-southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico. Maximum sustained winds are 70 mph. The combination of strong unfavorable upper-level easterly winds over Polo and cool waters should result in gradual weakening. On the forecast track, the center of Polo will pass south of the Baja California peninsula on Saturday. However, any deviation to the north of the track could bring stronger winds to the southern portion of the peninsula. A Tropical Storm Watch continues for the southern Baja California peninsula from Santa Fe to La Paz. A Tropical Storm Warning could be required for portions of the peninsula tonight. Polo is forecast to produce additional rainfall amounts of 4 to 8 inches - with isolated totals of 12 inches - near the coast of Jalisco, Islas Marias and Southern California California Sur in western Mexico during the next several days. These rains could result in life-threatening flash floods and mud slides. Get the latest on this tropical cyclone tonight by visiting the NHC website at hurricanes.gov
