True Crime of the Day: In 1934, Public Enemy Number One John Dillinger was gunned by federal agents outside the Biograph Theater in Chicago. Earlier, he had attended a Cubs game escorted by his girlfriend, Polly Hamilton, and Anna Sage, her landlady and an illegal immigrant who owned several brothels. Sage had brokered a deal to stay in the country by promising to turn Dillinger over to federal agents. Despite the nickname of Woman in Red, and a promise to wear red as a distinctive mark, Sage is said to have actually worn an orange skirt and white blouse that night.
