Truex Jr. Qualifies 19th in Daytona DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 4, 2014) – In the rain-shortened time trials Friday Martin Truex Jr. qualified his Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet 19th for Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway. As rain started to fall at the World Center of Racing, NASCAR officials called the session following the first of three rounds of competition. Truex’s No. 78 Chevy toured the 2.5-mile superspeedway in 45.439 seconds at 198.068 miles per hour. “Our goal was to get into the top 25 in the first round and move on from there,” said Truex. “But the rain spoiled the opportunity to advance. You always want to get a strong qualifying spot, but where you qualify here doesn’t mean that much. We have a good car, just need to keep it clean and fight for the win when all heck breaks loose in the closing laps.” The pole winner was David Gilliland (45.153 at 199.322). Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Reed Sorenson, Landon Cassill, Bobby Labonte, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr., David Regan, Jeff Gordon and Greg Biffile. Saturday night’s 160-lap, 400-mile race will be televised on TNT, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show beginning at 4:30 p.m. MT (6:30 p.m. ET). ###
