Truth is, though, that there’s not a lot of pan-African love between Kenya and South Africa at the moment. The two countries are at loggerheads over the contentious issue of the International Criminal Court, at which Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are currently on trial, charges with crimes against humanity committed during Kenya’s post-election violence in 2007-2008. Kenya is lobbying hard for African countries to pull out of the ICC; South Africa, until recently at least, has been steadfast in its commitment to the international court, reads an excerpt from a recently published piece by The Daily Maverick .
