Trying to form an outline of a paper on the very, VERY broad topic of Global Health, Poverty, and Development (I chose the ebola outbreak).. pls help? Ebola vs. Politics, Information, Economics, etc... role of govt? role of intl organizations (like WHO)? transnational organizations (like WAHO)? Ebola has no cure, no treatment, and 90% of the infected die. Politics: President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia is being accused of abandoning the country in the midst of a national crisis. Rivalries between countries intensify because of the fear that the disease will be spread as a form of killing/revenge/control. Information: Armed gangs are chasing health workers away in Sierra Leone, fearing that they are spreading the disease more than they are fighting it. Zambias airports are completely lacking surveillance and theyre letting anyone come and go without asking if they had recently visited a west African country. Many are still uninformed or in denial of the disease. Economics: Some countries are closing their borders and public transportation which decreases tourism which hurts the economy and many countries are refusing to trade with ebola-infected countries fearing its spread into their own countries. Governments are going to have to spend a lot of money on dealing with this (health facilities, finding a cure, etc.) People: The president of Liberia announced that anyone found or reported to be holding suspected Ebola cases in homes or prayer houses can be prosecuted under the law. Some patients had discharged themselves from the hospital and had gone into hiding. Guineans are looked upon with stigma, even if the individuals are not carriers. Throw me any general comments/thoughts/criticism on this pls?
