Tuesday, August 12, 2014 Our Father, we come to you this evening as your Prayer Warriors here on earth, asking that you hear our prayers for those who are sick or just in need of prayer. Lord we know that you have said where 2 or more are gathered there you will be also. We may not be gathered together physically but we are spiritually, so we ask that you be with us. Prayer Warriors it is now time to join our hands to paws to ask the Lord to grant our prayers. We ask that you give each member of the loved ones’ family peace and comfort in the knowledge that their loved one is safe with you in Paradise. Lord, we ask that you comfort this grieving family as they come to terms with tragedy and learn how to go on without their loved ones. Remember to celebrate their life, not mourn their death, for they now dwell with the Lord and his angels. We ask that you give each member of the fur-baby’s family peace and comfort in the knowledge that their fur-baby is safe with you at the Rainbow Bridge. We know that they are in a better place and we are not to mourn a death but to rejoice and celebrate their life. All of those who have gone on before us, will be forever in our hearts even if your name is unknown to us. There is a heartrending moment when pet owners realize its time to say a final goodbye to their loyal companions. So many beautiful pawed angels have left for the Rainbow Bridge. We are sending love, peace and light to their souls as they travel on their new journeys....also sending love, comfort and healing to their families who are dealing with loss and grief. Were going to take him up to the Colorado State University Flint Animal Care Center sometime this week to discuss if theres an alternative chemical that can be used or any other alternatives to chemo. Because hes fought through GI Tract lymphoma, Spleen and now Stomach cancer, their fear is that so much chemo has been applied that it is going to affect heart performance soon. The next morning he woke up a little fussy and uncomfortable and had to go into the oxygen chamber at the vets office for an hour. After a little while he felt much better and was able to leave the oxygen cage and ate a fourth of a can of doggy food!! He was only hospitalized during the day while I was at work but now Im off to pick him up and bring him home. The pittie that was thrown from the bridge in Brooklyn who has been named Meeker is expected to make a full recovery, although he may need surgery to repair a hernia from the impact. We ask that you ease the suffering of the furbabies. Jagger We learned a lot yesterday. This is going to be a long post, so hang in there! One interesting fact we learned about my youth is that I am a heartworm survivor. My family never knew that. Fighting for my life is apparently something that I learned really early in life. I also hate to get stitches out! I was not very cooperative for that! But as you read on I think you will understand more. The good news is that the surgery went well. The tests showed that they got good margins when removing the tumor. The tests indicated that I have a type of skin cancer (squamous) and that it likes to travel to the lungs. Just like repeated sun burns can cause melanoma, we have a theory that the burns that were inflicted on me in my pre-rescue life caused this form of skin cancer on me. (I was burned on my man parts to get me to fight. So now you know why I wasnt happy about those dang stitches! The tumor was in a sensitive area!) My tests from yesterday showed that the cancer is NOT in my lungs! Yay! So for now my familys job is to keep a really close eye on me. Ill get inspected all over for anything out of ordinary on a regular basis...which is fine by me because that means lots of pets and cuddles! As long as long as my inspections don’t show anything then the only other thing is that Ill go back to the vet every so often to get tests run again to make sure nothing nasty is showing up in my lungs and such. This is about the best news we could have gotten yesterday! I’m not out of the woods yet but on the right trail. The power of my friends and their prayers and positivity works! You all are amazing! And Im so lucky to have you! I may have cancer, but together we are kicking it’s butt. I love you my friends! Titus will be visiting with Dr. Skeen at Carolina Veterinarian Specialist on Wednesday for his 2 week checkup. Dr. Hedrick and Dr. Skeen have been working together to get this boy back on track. It will be awhile before he is able to be neutered (his brain needs to fully heal before going under) but he will be ready to go into a foster home very soon. Please keep prayers strong for Peanut Pumpkin Pie, whose liver is in distress due to pharmacy error in meds.... Well dear friends....another painful update on Peanut Pumpkin Pie. I have been struggling with myself on how to tell you all the newest news on Peanut because I have been battling with despair myself in upon hearing the news. I was devastated, angry, and just plain numb for a few days once I talked to Peanuts vet, so I wasnt in a position to take to Facebook and give any updates on our favorite little girl. I am finally at a point where I can face this head on, tell you all what is happening, ask you all once again for more prayers, and gird my loins for the battle that lays ahead....so here it is. Peanut had a bile acid test last week. It is designed to tell us how well her liver is actually working. The numbers werent good. Pre-meal numbers should be less than 10. Peanut was 136. Post meal should be less than 25. Peanut was 139. A lot of big medical terms were thrown around in the course of the conversation like congenital microvascular liver disease and liver shunts and microvascular displasia as possible diagnoses for what Peanut could have. I asked the vet outright if any of these could lead to an early death for my little girl and the vet said yes. She also said there could be more episodes like the one Peanut just recovered from (basic liver failure), except eventually, she wont pull out of it. As you can imagine, many tears of sorrow were cried after I got off the phone, such that I could find no end to the pain. To have gotten through that horrible event where Peanut was so sick, where she was so close to death....to have received such good news that her liver enzymes were back to normal, only to get kicked in the gut with such news as this was beyond what my heart could take. I nearly lost. I was mad at God. I was mad because I felt like He had taken my miracle from me and had left me with nothing more than a broken heart and the threat of impending doom. As the shock of the news began to ease and as I watched my little girl sleep, oblivious to everything except the love she had to give to me, I realized something. Peanut never gave up. She never stopped fighting when she was sick, and she fought because of her love for me. So in the face of what seems like an impossible diagnosis, I am not going to stop fighting for her....not for one single second. God hasnt taken away the miracle. He is giving me a chance to believe it is there waiting for her. The only way that hope dies is if I stop believing there is any. There are treatments, so we are pursuing them all. We are not going to stop living because of what MIGHT happen. Peanut has given too much to me for me to give up on her, so everyone, please pray. Pray for that miracle. Pray for a long life. Pray that we find a treatment that reverses the liver function issues, and if your faith is strong enough.......pray that the diagnosis is WRONG!!!! There are days where all I have is the dust that lives on the tip of a mustard seed, but if a mustard seed faith can move a mountain, then maybe, just maybe, faith as small as mine can see a little dog with a loving heart made whole again. Lily who was diagnosed CHF. Lord we ask that you give each one of these precious fur babies the strength and faith to fight each of their medical problems.
