Tuesday Bugs and I went with Lisa and Navarre to the Sawmill - TopicsExpress

Tuesday Bugs and I went with Lisa and Navarre to the Sawmill trail. We turned the day into a fun Actha training day adding some challenges to a very relaxed leisurely trail ride. At the Sawmill trail head there is a mounting mound and Lisa had Navarre facing her and on voice command he moved over and lined up so she could mount, it was beyond awesome (something now on my list of things Bugs needs to learn) We then started our ride and found a broken camping chair and Lisa attached a rope to it and had Navarre drag it. I put Bugs behind the chair and she was really freaking out at this thing moving, making noise and trying to attack her friend. Of course Navarre is looking at Bugs like what’s your problem. Lisa gets the chair to a tree and we are going to practice “feed the bears.” She hangs the rope over a tree branch and pulls the rope slowly lifting the chair, Bugs’ eyes get bigger and bigger as the chair moves lol. We worked on this for a long time. Bugs was hiding behind Navarre, putting her head against him, we really upset her with this challenge but she came around and by the end of it was very calm and relaxed. We then found a fire pit and Bugs didn’t even react to it until I asked her to step in it. I ended up getting off and working with her on the ground. She got one foot in the fire pit and two on the cement ring. We then trotted up a long steep hill and poor out of shape fatty Bugs thought she was gonna die lol, Bugs was breathing so hard it was seriously funny. We rode for a while then went back by the trailer for lunch and tied the horses to a hitching post and had lunch at the picnic benches. We then rode a bit more and came across a mare and foal from one of the wild herds. We never saw the rest of the herd but the mom and baby were probably only 25 feet away from us, it was awesome. I got a few pics, both Navarre and Bugs got very amped up seeing the wild horses. We then headed back to the trailer to head home. Lisa has a two horse straight load with a ramp. Bugs was fine loading both times and unloaded easy with a little coxing at the trial even though she was nervous. When we got home Bugs was mentally and physically exhausted and would not back out of the trailer. I tried everything to get her out including a stud chain and a whip she would not budge. I was not strong enough to get her out so Lisa had to drag her out. I was so glad that Lisa was able to get her out quickly and fuss free. I have never been in that situation and was really at a loss for what to do. That was Bugs big adventure in Sawmill, it was a great day, it was beautiful, it was a great experience for Bugs and I and it was just a fun relaxing day. The only problems Bugs had was a few tantrums during the ride and the problem with unloading, she is getting better and better with every ride. If you have never been to Sawmill I would defiantly recommend it, it is heaven. I will defiantly be back enjoying the trails up there again.
