Tuesday, October 29th, 2013: DAY 211 LOVE TAKES FIVE The Lord will fight for you; you must be quiet.~Exodus 14:14 Sometimes the tension in our homes can become nearly impossible to defuse. Too much has been said already, and any more words--even words of apology and promise--are not going to smooth things over. Not right now. Thats when love does the bravest thing, and backs off for a while. No, a few hours of quiet arent likely to fix everything thats wrong, but it will at least lower the heat and give time for reflection. It will keep you from turning your thoughts into careless words that your spouse will have a hard time forgetting. Its easy to despair for the future of your marriage when things are stirred up into a shouting match. When youre both entrenched on the battlefield, its hard to imagine that you and your mate have much hope of finding common ground, now or ever. But call a time out. Go to your corners. Announce a cease fire. Suspend hostilities. You may find that when you come together again at a lower heat index, youre able to see a glimmer of hope emerge. THIS WEEKS DARE: Talk with your spouse about honoring each other, even in times of frustration or disagreements. Commit to seek godly counsel for any critical issue that is causing ongoing friction in your marriage.
