Tuesday evening, the TC Stars-Sully played the New Mexico ROC in a game in the Triple Crown World Series in San Diego. In the top of the 2nd inning, Stars 2nd baseman, #33 Celyn Whitt, smashed a powerful line drive toward the NM ROC pitcher. In a horrific circumstance that sometime occurs in this great game, the ball, coming powerfully off Celyns bat caught the left side of the NM ROCs pitchers face! The pitcher immediately fell to the ground in unbearable pain. Medical attention was immediate (thanks to TC parent Rob Spendlow) and 911 was called. Medical personal was quickly dispatched and the gritty NM ROC pitcher (who thankfully never lost consciousness) was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. After evaluation, it was determined the young lady broke her cheek bone in 4 places as well as suffered a broken nose. She was released from the hospital late in the evening and her family drove back to Las Cruces, NM for further evaluation. The NM ROC team continued on in the tournament Wednesday morning as they took on the AZ Monsters. At the conclusion of this game, in a splendid show of sportsmanship, the TC Stars-Sully team, led by Celyn Whitt, entered the NM ROC dugout and presented to the team and coaches a bouquet of flowers and a get well card to pass on to their injured teammate! As you see in the video, it was a touching display of sportsmanship by this TC team that was greatly appreciated by the NM ROC team and embodies what the TC organization is all about!
