Turkish #scrap demand firms up World Steel News 25.9.2013 Trading has sped up in the Turkish scrap market, demand for European material being the strongest. In mid-week, a Karadeniz-based steelmaker bought 6,000 t of HMS 1&2 (90:10), 18,000 t of shredded scrap, 1,500 t of HMS 1&2 (70:30), 1,000 t of busheling material and 1,500 t of P&S material from Denmark at $363/t CFR Turkey. Similar batch was sold at $381.5/t CFR Turkey in late August.A scrap collector from the UK has assessed shipment of HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $360/t CFR, shredded scrap – at $365/t CFR and P&S material – at $370/t CFR Turkey. Earlier, European HMS 1&2 (80:20) was acquired at $359/t CFR and shredded scrap – at $368/t CFR Turkey.A steelmaker from Izmir bought A3 scrap from one of Russian sellers based in the Baltic Sea region at $368/t CFR Turkey. The contract was registered 2 weeks ago, players say, and does not reflect the current situation in the market.After quite a long break, one of the US largest suppliers has closed a deal thanks to softer pricing policy. Particularly, US shredded scrap has been sold at $368/t CFR Turkey, $3-7/t below the offer. As a result, nominal prices for HMS 1&2 (80:20) have decreased to $363/t CFR Turkey, those for P&S material – to $373/t CFR.Sporadic deals are recorded with traders from the Azov-Black Sea basin. Some Turkish consumers are booking small tonnages of Russian A3 scrap at $350-352/t CFR, $1-3/t below the previous level. At the same time, offers of Romanian A3 scrap draw no attention for they are still quoted at $354/t CFR Turkey.Scrap demand will be steady in Turkey’s market in the near term.
