Turn on TV news, check online news ,,, couldnt help but feeln appalled by all the atrocities and human suffering plaguing all corners of this beautiful earth. As the world Leaders, Religious leaders, Policy makers, Strategists, scholars etc struggle to grapple with emergence of organised state like org like ISIS and pandemics such as Ebola,,, Im reminded of Professor Ramesh Thakurs (ANU) piece written in 2005. HUman Security and Intervention in which he lay out the new approaches to question of When it is legitimate or imperative for the international community to intervene to protect major violations of human rights. This is the key issue in the world in which we live in today, it seems the threshold for the use of force has been lowered to a dare level, United States appeared weak, other emerging global powers and middle powers are bandwagoning or free riders. The biblical principle which was embedded into the UN Charter Nation shall not lift up sword against nations but shall rather beat their swords into ploughshare is as irrelevant as UN is to modern human security challenges. Traditional narrow definition of security, nation states, sovereignty, defence etc falsifies the policy processes of The need to act, or Responsibility to protect.. All of these dilemmas and limitations do nothing to remove the essential problem of the occurrence of human suffering on a massive scale oh well but Im just a guy from a tiny Island nation studying in Taiwan simply ranting on facebook .. you figure my insignificance ??
