~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Turtle News~*~*~*~*~*~*~* In May 2013 Blair was found stranded having been washed ashore at Myrtle beach. Starved and unable to move she was covered in barnacles. It was feared that she might not survive, however after 6 months of care from workers at the South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Rescue Program Blair had gained over 50 pounds, was free of barnacles and fit once more. Unfortunately in another twist to what seemed like a happy ending it was discovered that Blair was having difficulty seeing. She had developed cataracts which could cause blindness. Dr. Ann Cook, a specialist in veterinary ophthalmology from Animal Eye Care of the Low country, performed a life-changing surgery that restored Briars eyesight. Now 13 months later a now strong and healthy Blair was released on Tuesday July 15th. Kudos to all involved in this amazing rehabilitation!
