Twenty years ago today, I picked Perry Rianhard up after work. He was holding a bouquet of balloons to take with us on a date for a ferry ride. I figured he just wanted to emulate the ferry signs, which show a little stick person holding balloons. Who knew that, much to my embarrassment, hed actually bring them on the boat, and then, much to my chagrin, insist we untangle the red balloon from the bunch to release while making a wish. Itll pop and some poor seagull or fish will choke on it! I argued, but ultimately relented. And mid-way to Port Kent, at sunset, we made a wish and let go of the balloon and he kissed me...and then pulled out a little box with a diamond ring and asked me to marry him.
