Two ASU graduates debut on nationwide television THIS WEEK - and another one next week! ALABAMA STATE UNIVERSITY Office of Media Relations & Public Information ASUs Dr. Tommie Tonea Stewart is helping a new class of actor all-stars emerge from ASU (photo attached below). ASU offers new class of university alumni all-stars - ACTORS, storming the national stage! - Look out university & college sports all-stars, a new class of stand-out student is emerging! - Two debut on nationwide television THIS week!! Yes, many universities and colleges hooray their various all-star athletes; graduates who excel in a myriad of professional sports, and Alabama State University is no different than any other school in this respect. However, ASU has a new class of alumni all-stars who are emerging, not from its athletic fields... but from its stage! The all-star actor is the new genre of superstar coming forth from ASU and it is just as proud of this new type of recognized all-star graduate as it is of any athlete. This new class of star is a product of its nationally acclaimed theatre and visual arts program. ASU has had many all-star NFL players and a large number of Civil Rights Movement all-stars as well, such as Ralph Abernathy, Fred Shuttlesworth, Fred Gray and others, but look out America, our newest cadre of superstars is just emerging from ASU, and they are actors, said Dr. Tommie Tonea Stewart, dean of Alabama State Universitys College of Visual and Performing Arts. All of these new and emerging actors have come to the nations attention due to the incredible coaching supervision and tutelage of Dean Stewart, who is a nationally renowned actor, cast as Aunt Etta for 12 seasons of televisions super - show In The Heat of the Night, and who has also starred in a myriad of other television and cinema productions with such stars as Carroll OConnor, Chuck Norris, Angela Bassett, Andy Griffith, Cecily Tyson, Whoopie Goldberg, and many others. Many feel that ASU is able to have its students dominate the Broadway stage, Hollywood movies and the television airways like no other Alabama college or university because of Stewarts intuitive acting prowess and her countless Hollywood and Broadway connections. Regardless of your opinion, its a fact that Alabama States acting-students and graduates are working both On and Off-Broadway and are being cast in an incredible number of acting and dancing roles with touring companies, Hollywood movies and on television. Our student - actors continue to win numerous Kennedy Center and other acting honors and awards while in school here, so when a casting agent or director sees an ASU degree beside someones name, they know that the actor from Bama State has a great foundation in the theatre arts, Stewart added. These young actors (like many others during the past several years who trained under Stewart and her all-star faculty and staff) are making names for themselves in the entertainment arena and are destined for a shiny future in its world of cameras, footlights, make-up, acting and dancing. Below are just some of the most recent and upcoming young ASUs acting all-stars who are here to bedazzle and entertain you, with several debuting on nationwide television this week.
