Two North Forsyth Vikings Advances to the 3A NC Indoor Track State Championship…(and it’s only the first meet!) Starting their second year as members of the Indoor Track Team, seniors Brandon Gambrell and June Lisa Foster advanced to the State Championships being held in February 2014. Brandon started off his night by winning the 55m hurdles in a personal best time of 8.1. With that time he qualified for states. As the night went on Gambrell would run to a personal best time for the 55m dash, winning his heat and taking fifth place over all. To top it all off, Brandon competed in the high jump where he leaped to a state qualifying mark before stopping to run the 300m dash, where he took a close second to Regan’s Jakari King-Penn. June Lisa Foster ran as though she hadnt missed a beat since last indoor season. As usual she found herself in the middle of a Parkland storm of fast ladies and proved….again…that there will be no sweep by a very potent sprint crew such as parkland, as long as she is in the mix. Lisa not only took third place, staving off the sweep, but she rewarded herself with a state qualifying 55m dash time of 7.45, just shy of her personal best that she ran at the end of last season. She went on to break up the same sweep by parkland in the 300m, taking third in that event, just one second off of qualifying for states (and it’s only the first meet!). As North’s seniors did their thing, the the next generation did theirs. Michael Blackburn and Jose Macias both had solid performances in the 1600m run. Gerrick Harmon also had solid races in the 300m (5th) and the 500m (2nd). Sophomore Sykonza Evans had a breakout night at JDL Fast Track, W-S, NC. Evans took sixth place in the 55m dash nearly qualifying for states. In the 300m she kept pace with teammate June Lisa Foster up until the last 30m to take second place in their heat.
