The Independent Customers of Demoulas Market Basket today issued the following statement: Three weeks ago, we offered a solution to the current standoff. We pledged to put more expensive and less satisfactory food on our tables. All we asked for was an end to the standoff by Board members motivated and fueled by unbridled vengeance and greed, so that Associates could work in peace and security, and Customers could continue to enjoy the service and prices they rely on Market Basket to provide. We have had a series of difficult household decisions to make. In doing so, it has been evident that there is NO reason to believe that the independent directors of the Demoulas Board, A class Shareholders, or current Co-CEOs have either the capacity or the willingness to act in good faith and integrity when it comes to the lives of 25,000 Associates, 2 million Customers, and New Englands local economies. We have been, and continue to be, available to resolve this standoff anytime and everywhere. All it takes is a Yes. Yes to a binding commitment to sell the remaining 50.5% of shares to Arthur T. Demoulas at the only asking-price offer you will ever get. Yes to reasonable and rational terms to that sale. Yes to the immediate reinstating Arthur T. Demoulas as President and CEO of the company. Yes to ending the threats, intimidation, lies, and incompetence that has brought this company to ruin. Yes to recognizing that the only hostages here are those who have allowed yourselves to be consumed by your own arrogance. It is time for you to get back to work. You must end this game. We, the Independent Customers of Market Basket encourage you to finally act in the best interests of Associates, Customers—and in the end, the Demoulas Market Basket Company. We are ready to shop—elsewhere.
