Two days ago C. Ivan Stoltzfus began a journey from Manasquan, New Jersey. He plans to end in Crescent City, California. This is no ordinary journey. A 1948 John Deere Model A antique tractor is the vehicle, and America’s Veterans is the cause. The name of the journey is Across America for Wounded Heroes, and the goal is to bring recognition and support for the many heroes of the USA. All monies raised benefit the Wounded Warriors Project. The journey started right out of the Atlantic Ocean. Taylor Martin, Ivan’s grandson described what he saw on Saturday, April 26, “It was raining, and the tractor started to come out of the water, and the rain stopped and the sun rose at the same time. It was really cool.” That day, and through Sunday, Ivan and the tractor travelled all the way to Kennett Square, Pa. where residents held a parade. At some point, however, the tractor’s axle began malfunctioning. Ivan and his team got it in for repairs right away. Ivan still made it to a planned breakfast with Veterans of the Coatesville VA Medical Center. He addressed the group with a grateful heart, “I recognize that you made a sacrifice, and I want to make a sacrifice for you. I want you to know that America cares.” County Commissioner Ryan Costello also joined the group for breakfast. He, too, thanked Veterans for their service, “America is the home of the free because of the brave.” Acting Director Jonathan Eckman invited Ivan, his daughter Tina Martin, and her children Taylor, Tanner, Emily and Ellie to share breakfast. After the axle is repaired, Ivan will continue on his journey stopping for support of various kinds along the way. Food and Nutrition Service employee Kimberly Keegan wished the group well, “Safe journeys for our crew here.”
