Two days ago, I finally managed to finish Drown, a collection of linked short stories (which mostly feature the same characters in different episodes of their lives) by Junot Diaz. Its probably the first book I got to finish this year (thanks to RIVER OF EXPLODING DURIANS, I havent exactly have time to read much) and the first book I finished since Ruth Ozekis TALE FOR THE TIME BEING late last year. (I meant fiction, earlier this year I was going through two Edward Yang books that I bought in Taipei.) Diazs depiction of the Dominican Republic immigrant experience is fascinating, and illuminating. Kinda cinematic too, hmmm. But anyway, I guess now I can continue reading Bolanos SAVAGE DETECTIVES, which I started since early last year, but have been reading on and off since then. The problem is that I have the book in electronic format, and its in both my phone and my laptop, but they are really both too distracting for me to concentrate on finishing the book.
