Two days ago, I finally managed to finish Drown, a collection of linked short stories (which mostly feature the same characters in different episodes of their lives) by Junot Diaz. Its probably the first book I got to finish this year (thanks to RIVER OF EXPLODING DURIANS, I havent exactly have time to read much) and the first book I finished since Ruth Ozekis TALE FOR THE TIME BEING late last year. (I meant fiction, earlier this year I was going through two Edward Yang books that I bought in Taipei.) Diazs depiction of the Dominican Republic immigrant experience is fascinating, and illuminating. Kinda cinematic too, hmmm. But anyway, I guess now I can continue reading Bolanos SAVAGE DETECTIVES, which I started since early last year, but have been reading on and off since then. The problem is that I have the book in electronic format, and its in both my phone and my laptop, but they are really both too distracting for me to concentrate on finishing the book. Thanks a bloody million, Facebook.
