Two great catches and a home run by Tommy Agee helped the New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 45 years ago today in Game 3 of the 1969 World Series. The center fielders beautiful outfield play at Shea Stadium saved the team at least five runs in the 5-0 victory. With the win, The Amazin Mets took a 2-1 game lead in the Fall Classic, and went on to take the Series. They were dubbed the The Amazin Mets because prior to the 69 season, they had never finished higher than 9th place in the 10-team National League. I wrote in my diary after the Mets won the brass ring Oct. 16, 1969: The Amazin New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles today for the baseball world championship, 5-3, after trailing 3-0 in the 6th inning. Donn Clendenon won the MVP in the World Series, hitting 3 homers. After losing the first game, 4-1, the Mets won 4 straight -- 2nd game, 2-1; 3rd game, 5-0; 4th game, 2-1 in 10 innings, 5th game, 5-3. Fantastic! youtube/watch?v=EtgL-GX6pE8
