Two interesting articles worth reading for their balanced approches to a complex debate, while avoiding the pitfall of angelism. If religious extremism is a challenge to the necessary modernization of Islamic exegesis and tarnishes the image of that faith, caricatural generalizations and amalgams against Islam only help the fundamentalists to sell their paranoid propagande. Yet, sensible Muslims should make no mistake: focussing on fighting islamophobia is a waste of time and a dangerous path that could lead to radicalization. For Muslims, the most efficient and durable way to address islamophobia is to defeat Muslim fundamentalists in defining the nature and purpose of Islam.
