Two issues which have gotten considerable discussion recently have been the size of the central office staff in the GC School System and the tendency of teachers in GC to seek employment else where. Some clarifying comments based on my experience: --I would find it hard to believe that the central office staff is leaner now than in the days when Phil Robbins was Superintendent. I think the more logical explanation is that the central office staff ballooned over the years and has been brought back more in line with common sense. I find the argument that the Superintendent of Schools can or cannot be be visiable / accessable throughout the school system due to the size of his or her central office staff a huge stretch; it probably has much more to do with leadership style, preferences, and priorities. --The job market for educators is very tight at present and has been in recent years. Teachers cannot afford to give up current positions in such a job market. Therefore, the teachers who are mobile in this job market do not tend to be mediocre - they tend to be those whose skills and performance is very marketable.
