Two men have been arrested for the attack on an SIU student Tuesday night, according to the SIU Department of Public Safety. It happened between the Agriculture Department building and Thompson Woods on the west side of campus. The two were arrested on battery charges. A DPS statement says they are not affiliated with the university. Campus police reported six men attacked the student, who was not seriously injured. SIU officials have provided few details about the crime beyond what they are required to reveal under the federal Clery Act. The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Department of Public Safety arrested two of the six suspects in a battery investigation from September 30. The victim was reportedly battered on the east side of the Agriculture Building. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. The arrested suspects are not affiliated with the university. Investigation into the matter is continuing.
