Two nights ago, past midnight, I was sitting up in bed and editing the book when I heard Shep moving around in his bed across the room. I saw him stand up in my periphery and when I looked over at him, he was just standing there, staring silently at me and sucking on his pacifier. But then the sweet little booger waved at me. I waved back. He waved again. I waved back. He smiled from behind his pacifier and waved one more time. And then I did what any doting mother would do, I jumped out of bed and scooped him up and had me some cuddle time. Some babies seem to come out instinctively knowing how much easier it is to catch a fly with honey than it is with vinegar, and Shep is an expert fly-catcher.
