Two people jumped from a stolen vehicle that police were pursuing Thursday in South Los Angeles, and they were taken into custody along with the car’s driver after a chase of about 45 minutes. Police began following the vehicle at McKinley Avenue and East 85th Street (map) at about 1:13 p.m., according to Officer Reyes of the Los Angeles Police Department. The tan Toyota Camry was seen traveling at a high rate of speed on surface streets as several police cars followed behind, aerial video from Sky 5 showed. At one point during the pursuit, two people jumped from the moving car and ran off in different directions. The driver remained inside and sped off in an attempt to elude officers, video showed. After traveling through several neighborhoods and narrowly avoiding a collision with another vehicle, the car finally came to a stop at about 2 p.m. The driver got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident near East 116th Street and Stanford Avenue (map). Police later said they had taken into custody a boy and girl, both minors, who jumped from the car. The car involved in the pursuit had been stolen, LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman confirmed.
