Two years ago next week, I began my career as the Museum Director for the San Francisco Railway Museum. While I was extremely nervous about it and not 100% convinced that I could do it, many of you believed I could. But more specifically some people helped me believe I could do it. My exceptionally good friend Nannette Mickle took me under her wing and for five full years taught me the skills and confidence I needed to succeed. She guided me through the toughest time of my entire life and did so without complaint. My mother, Darlene Leadingham, made huge sacrifices throughout my life to give me the best she could. She believed in me when no one else would and never doubted me. She also took me on the first vacation of my life and introduced me to my newest obsession... cruising! Over the last two years, Ive lost my partner of ten years, my little girl, both of whom were my best friends and went everywhere with me. But also over the last two years, Ive realized who I was meant to be and that I do have the skills and confidence to turn a small, failing, unnoticed museum into a financial success for the first time ever and a truly popular destination in a city full of the best of everything. Unfortunately, I will not be able to celebrate my two year anniversary at the museum. I will instead be on vacation once again. And once again, Im going on a cruise with one of my heroes... my mother.
