Two years ago today I lost one of my bestfriends, Cody Woodard. He was one of the most beautiful, sweet, & thoughtful people I have ever had the pleasure of loving. He was a part of my family. Thats how I remember him. Every day since hes been gone has reminded me of how intense, beautiful, ugly, painful, precious, & short life is. Codys death changed me. The last time I spoke to him, I didnt speak, I screamed. I was so angry, I didnt understand the power of addiction, I didnt understand how deeply it affected him, I was ignorant. I said so many things out of anger, a lot of thing a that I just didnt mean. That experience, not being able to take those things back, or tell him I loved him one more time haunts me to this day. I know wherever he is now, he feels my love. It still hurts my heart that someone as special as him was robbed of his life. Cody wasnt the bad things he did, Cody was who he helped people feel like they were. A conversation with him made you feel like you were the most important person in the room, he was charismatic & wise. Not to mention one of the funniest people I have ever met. Codys death was the first time addiction took one of my friends. It opened my eyes to the suffering involved with addiction. It wasnt until this past year that I truly understood the struggle he was faced with. I have met so many beautiful & amazing people through recovery, & Ive gained so much insight into the disease of addiction. If you, or anyone you know is suffering from addiction, & feel ready to seek help, all you need to do is ask. In memory of my dear friend lost to addiction, I promise to help anyone looking for help to the best of my abilities. Life is precious, fight for it. Cody, I will continue to love you forever. Rest easy. addictionresourceguide
