U.S. Marine Charged With Murdering Transgender Woman In Philippines --bzfd.it/1qQjWG7 -- A U.S. Marine has been charged in the strangling of a 26-year-old transgender Filipino woman in the bathroom of a hotel room. A U.S. Marine has been charged in the murder of a 26-year-old transgender woman in the Philippines, the Navy Times reported. The 19-year-old Marine, Pfc. Scott Pemberton, is assigned to a North Carolina unit and was in the Philippines as a part of 10-day joint military exercise, according to an internal Navy memo obtained by Marine Corps Times. Prosecutor Emily de los Santos said Monday there was probable cause that Marine Pfc. Joseph Scott Pemberton killed 26-year-old Jennifer Laude. The Marine was originally being held by American military officers on board the assault ship USS Peleliu, but Washington eventually agreed to move him to a Philippine camp, where he remained under American custody with an additional set of Filipino guards. The United States will continue to fully cooperate with Philippine law enforcement authorities in every aspect of the investigation, the U.S. Embassy said in statement.
