UDP Chairman escapes Police tear gas By admin on September 19, 2014 By Risco Lumamezi CHAIRPERSON of the United Democratic Party (UDP) escaped police tear gas, when the Namibian Police in Katima Mulilo raided his house on September 5. Mr. Dasken Salwendo Mulisa, UDP chairman Mr. Dasken Salwendo Mulisa, UDP chairman whose party president Mr.Mishake Muyongo is currently in Denmark, seeking solutions for the independence of the Caprivi Strip told Caprivi Vision that his life is in danger and is in fear that the behaviours of the Namibian police raised suspicions of assassination plot. He accused the police for acting unreasonable and disregard that they did not honour section 26 and 27 of the criminal procedure act for failing to state the purpose of their attack. Mr.Mulisa, who was not around at the time when the police raided his house, added that the police entered the house in a breakthrough convoy of vans fully armed surrounding his house in Ngweze with force causing damages to properties, include disorder to the life of the occupants. Apparently, the occupants in the house were his wife and his two little sons plus a defenceless domestic worker who were all asleep at the time. According to his wife Helen Maezo, Friday September 5, at around 02hrs in the morning, a group of police officers entered the premises knocking on all windows of the house shouting that no calls should be done, they opened a window firing a tear gas which caused the life danger to Mr.Mulisa’s family who were confused wakening-up from the deep sleep with suffocation coughs who were later ordered to hand over their cell phones and keys for the house to the police. “Upon their arrivals they knocked at the bedroom of the boys and when I heard the knock I checked on the window I saw the police cars on the road they were more than 5 cars and I couldn’t know they were police officers I thought they were thugs” she said. Ms Mulisa explained that in the process of searching for the keys , the other police officer broke the window and sprayed the tear gas , “when I asked them why they were here at this house they told me that they won’t tell me because I delayed them to open the door , and I was told to visit the charge office the next day” The concerned tear gas victim also stressed that when the police attacked her they explained that they were told to come to the house, she said the police statement was contradicting with the statement of the next morning when her and the husband reported themselves to the police station as they were told that the police were looking for the suspect “the station commander said they apologize to what they have done” she said. “I’m scared to stay here up to now I’m not sure, these police officers in Katima Mulilo they should know what they are doing, they are claiming that they have been trained but their reactions for that day showed that they don’t know what they are doing, they were just trained but they are not reading the books, to know what they supposed to do for the nation because what they have done at this house it is a serious mess. I’m a Namibian I have to be treated like anyone in Namibia, I’m not a cockroach, I’ m not an animal I’m a human being, my rights should be protected and I warn them if they will happen to come at this place in that manner, I don’t know who will know what will happen between me and them because I’ll take it further I want them to do what they were trained to the nation.” Explained Mulisa’s wife. Mr. Mulisa went on saying that they (police) forcibly broke the window with the barrel of the gun and later fired tear gas in the house which seriously caused havoc to his family inside the house. “I was embarrassed by the behaviours of the police actually, they failed even to comply with the proviso that state that an audible demand for admission ought to be advanced, I regard their demand at that time as not audible, but it was unreasonable because it was just full of noise surrounding the premises itself, knocking all over, forcing the inhabitants just to open the door. Later one of the police officers just took the gun and opened the window forcibly by the barrel. Upon opening he fired tear gas inside through the window to cause havoc, a tremendous disorder at that time everybody got frustrated and my wife opened the door.” He said. He argued on their reason of the need to enter the premises, they were directed at the house and all what they said was that if they want to know more about the matter they should go to the police station to get the purpose of their coming to the premises. He alleged that “so taking into account surrounding this issue, I regard the action of the police at that time and date to be premeditated assassination plot, they were targeting at me as the leader of UDP, nothing else for their failure to disclose the purpose of their need to enter the premises they were looking for me as a person in order to assassinate and destroy functionality of UDP in the Caprivi” he stressed. Photo taken by Risco Lumamezi He is therefore, calling the Namibian government and in particular warned the perpetrators of the incident which he claims that it was planned to kill him being a leader of the UDP. “Our intention, is we want dialogue over the issue of Caprivi we want the constructive talks instead of plotting against each other they will get nothing out of killing the leaders of UDP” he said Mr.Mulisa further warned that “for them to know …Muyongo is not alone we are even ready to take over from Muyongo should Muyongo happen to fail in anyway either by illness by whatever I’m ready to take up the leadership of UDP and pursue the case of Caprivi up to the end .What we want is a reasonable answer to the issue of the Caprivi they ought to put aside the tactics of assassinations.” However, Katima Mulilo Police Station Commander who was the Acting Police Regional Commander at the time of the incident, Chief Inspector Robert Sanjahi confirmed to this paper that he does not have any knowledge to what happened but he either denied that, or confirmed that he called the concerned Mr. Mulisa and the matter was concluded amicably at his office. “People must not bring politics in security no one is threatening them here in Zambezi region and they should not tell people that there’s insecurity here” explained chief inspector Sanjahi. “Why should he go to the media? that’s not how things are done” he asked He further said “I will deny or not deny … but what I can say is that, I don’t have any knowledge to what happened” Share this: Share Like this: This entry is filed under Caprivi News, Front Page. caprivivision/udp-chairman-escapes-police-tear-gas/
