UEFA Champions League Recap FC Bayern München VS Manchester United Final score 3-1 (4-2 Aggregate) The first half of the game was very slow. Both teams had their chances. ManU thought they got a goal from Valencia, but it was immediately denied by the linesman official, declaring that it was offside. Bayern Munich, as usual, had most of the ball possession, but was unable to convert that into goal in the first half. Overall, the first half was really slow for both teams. The second half started out slow, but it picked up after 5 minutes during the half. Patrice Evra breaks the deadlock with a wonder goal from 22 yards out. The ball cannoned out towards the top left of the post. There was no way Manuel Neuer was able to block that powerful shot. Evra played wonderfully all game today. He looked like he was back in his prime. He was alert throughout the whole game. He completely locked down his side of the defense. He fully deserved this goal. Unfortunately, it wasnt enough for ManU to get the win. Moments later, it was Bayerns turn to attack. Pep Guardiola immediately got his team to change mentality. From a passive passing football, to a more direct offensive style of football. Due to the change of mentality, Bayern was able to score the equalizer immediately. Mario Mandzukic MM17 was able to sneak a header to get the goal. Bayern doubled their lead with Thomas Müllers sneaky run around Nemanja Vidić. Even though Thomas had no space around him, he was able to get a goal with small movements around the 6 yard box. On the 76th minute, the man who assisted Mullers goal, Arjen Robben closes game with his elusive dribbling and scores the goal through a deflection off of Vidics left foot. Bayern commanded the game with possession and lethal finishing in the 18 yard box. The play was a textbook goal. A goal that coaches love to see. To see a team that makes an extra to get an open goal, makes every coach smile. Leo Messi presence was there, but his performance today was largely disappointing. Once again, he was unable to a goal through Thibaut Courtois. Courtois wasnt even tested against Messi, because his goals were marginally off target to begin with. Madrid dominated the whole game, it was more surprising that they couldnt convert shots into goals. David Villa hits the crossbar twice out of the three shots that hit the crossbar. Once again, he shows that he can still play at a high level and he is worth more than 5 million euros (2013 Summer transfer). The road looks bright for Diego Simeone. Even after the Falcao transfer (2013 summer transfer) and injuries from Diego Costa (from 1st leg) and Arda Turan (from 1st leg), Diego was still able to pull this game through without his star players. He used the home crowd to his advantage and the early goal gave the team a huge confident boost. Pinto (Barcelonas GK) played much better than most people can say about him. He got a goal through, dribbled around the box, made some questionable clearances, but he still saved 4 shots. The scoreline could have been a lot worse, but thankfully he was there at the goalmouth preventing what could have been a tear bleed lead. Barcelonas defense, or lack of, is what cost them the game. Tata commanded his slow, aging defense to push up the line to equalize the game. There is one thing he has to know, you have 90 minutes to equalize. He pushed the defense too high too early and the opposition team was able to break through the flanks of either side. Daniel Alves is a wonderful fullback, but he cant chase as well as he used to. Jordi Alba is still at an age where hes still developing his game, so he wasnt any help at the other side of the flank. Marc Bartra and Javier Alejandro Mascherano are easily the slowest center backs in Football manager. Any other coach would have not push the line so high up like Tata. Tata was basically taunting the opposition to attack their defense, but his taunts backfired into high quality shots that did not produce goals (but did gave life to the crowd).
