UFC 163 - Event preview and prediction by Adam Curley Main Event – Jose Aldo vs Chan Sung-Jung The MMA world salivated over the original main event match-up for UFC 163, but an injury forced Anthony Pettis out, so in stepped Chan Sung-Jung (13-3) to take on Featherweight champion Jose Aldo (22-1). The Brazilian goes in heavy favourite with good reason, 15 straight wins, the last five of them with his UFC belt on the line. Aldo is ranked #3 in the pound for pound rankings, and if not for his own injury troubles, could be placed even higher. Many raised eyebrows when the ‘Korean Zombie’ was given the main event slot, but what the UFC matchmakers have made clear in the past; fan favourites and exciting fighters get big fights. Three wins on the trot since his UFC debut is hardly something to sneeze at, especially given all three were spectacular finishes. Aldo’s leg kicks are devastating, his striking world-class and his power will cause ‘Zombie’ plenty of problems, it’s hard to stay mobile when you’re on one leg. The challenger may try to take the title-holder into the championship rounds, we must remember both Hominick and Frankie Edgar had success late in their fights, but sadly I don’t see how he can last that long. Prediction: Aldo by KO R2. Fast fact: Both men have fought former UFC veteran Mark Hominick… Aldo won a five round unanimous decision in at UFC 129 in 2011, the ‘Korean Zombie’ equalled the qickest KO in UFC history with a 7 second demolition of the Canadian at UFC 140.
