UGBOEGUNGUN COMMUNITY ESCRAVOS GIVES CHEVRON ONE WEEK ULTIMATUM TO ADDRESS NEGLECT OF THE COMMUNITY The Ugboegungun Community in Escravos has given a one week ultimatum to Chenvron Nigeria Limited to include indigenes of the community in the proposed Oil and Gas Vocational Training Programme Six (VTP6) scheduled to begin in the later part of the year. In a protest letter titled IMMEDIATE INCLUSION OF UGBOEGUNGUN COMMUNITY INDIGENES IN YOUR OIL & GAS/VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME SIX (VTP 6) and signed by MR. JOHN IBOKITIHON Chairman and DAVIES OMATSONE Secretary of the community respectively, the letter reads: We are writing this letter to protest your recent non inclusion of any Ugboegungun Community indigene(s) among person(s) already shortlisted for the Oil and Gas/Vocational Training Programme six (VTP 6) scheduled to commence later this year. Kindly recall that Ugboegungun a peace loving Community is a major Host of your multi billion dollars Escravos facility. And as such we are yet to come to terms why non of our qualified sons and daughters who are ready and able to be trained were not shortlisted in this your much anticipated training programme, when Communities who are not major hosts had their indigenes shortlisted. This attitude of yours is unacceptable and unethical to the good people of Ugboegungun Community. In the light of the above, we pray that you use your good office(s) to facilitate the seven (7) man list of our sons and daughters who are not only qualified but ready and able to be trained already sent to your Warri office for Oil and Gas/Vocational Training Programme six (VTP 6), so as not to truncate the peace and good relationship enjoyed in Niger Delta Region presently. Sir, we hope you will correct this act of deprivation and omission of Ugboegungun Community indigene(s) on or before Thursday, 10th April, 2014 as the community is ready to employ all available means be it legal or otherwise to stop your operation, if this injustice is not corrected. Thanks for your anticipated compliance, please. The letter concludes. Efforts to reach the The General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Chevron Nigeria Limited proved abortive as at press time.
