UK wantoks help city hospital #WHY_NCD_MAIN_HAUSSICK_NEEDIM_DONATION_MONEY_WHERE? By Leo Wafiwa, Oct 24, 2014. PNG Loop Chairman of the city hospital Sir Theophilus Constantinou this week thank Papua New Guineans living in the United Kingdom to give some much needed mobile blood pressure machines. The PNG group in UK known as Wantok Support Charity delivered five mobile blood pressure machines as a gift to the chief executive officer of Port Moresby Genetal Hospital (PMGH) Grant R. Muddle. Sir Theophilus explained how the help came about. He said early this year in February, PNG’s Heads of Missions (HOM) overseas had a week-long conference in Port Moresby. During the meeting the diplomats visited the city hospital at his invitation as chairman of the Board. Sir Theophilus had the opportunity to brief the HOMs on the hospital’s strategic development plan. He also took the our representatives overseas on a tour of selected wards to confirm some of the many challenges highlighted during his briefing. In the labour ward, they witnessed the disproportionate ratio of nurses to mothers giving birth and the disturbing scarcity of beds for mothers as two of the many challenges face by the hospital and its management. A ward sister while briefing the HOMs in a ward mentioned the need for mobile blood pressure machines. The sister said more patients in critical conditions could be attended to simultaneously if only staff had these hand-held machines. At the time, they had only one. Sir Theophilus said as a trustee of the Wantok Support Charity, PNG’s High Commissioner (HC) to the UK sought assistance from the charity, an organisation established by former HC to the UK Ms Jean Kekedo and administered by Papua New Guineans living in the United Kingdom. On behalf of the PMGH Board, Sir Theophilus thank the Wantok Support Charity for the gift of five mobile blood pressure machines. “The response from the Papua New Guineans in the UK to this important need in our hospital is gratefully acknowledged. This equipment will assist in the care and recovery of patients in PMGH,” he said. - See more at: pngloop/2014/10/24/uk-wantoks-help-city-hospital/#sthash.AlwbFtJd.dpuf
