ULTIMATE ILOCANO EXPO TO SHOWCASE BEST OF FILIPINO FOOD, PRODUCTS In line with the vision to improve the gastronomic tourism and develop trade and industry in the north, the Bakers and Restaurant Association of Ilocos Norte (BRAIN) in partnership with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) will open the second year of the Ilocos Norte Food and Trade Expo (INFOTEX) for three days from September 25 to 27 at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena, Laoag City. Billed as “the ultimate culinary showdown in the north”, INFOTEX 2014 aims to introduce Ilocos Norte as a “home of good food”. It thrives on goals of bringing together buyers and sellers and to give business diversified purchasing options. According to Ms. Pamela Aragoza, the president of BRAIN and owner of La Preciosa, for both national and local exhibitors, INFOTEX will be an avenue to “introduce their products as well as broaden their advertising”. It also aims to help on raising the awareness of locals to develop the quality of their food products and services such as those who own or work in hotels, restaurants and resorts. “We’re also asking for more participation from the local government units since this event shall inspire entrepreneurship among the locals,” added Ms. Aragoza. The event shall serve a wide variety of quality food products including bakery products, beverages, snacks, processed food, instant food, fruits and vegetables, green and organic food and seafood for public visitors to try. There will also be an exhibit of quality kitchenware with a new national exhibitor to introduce European-made explosion-proof liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks. An on-the-spot series of showdowns to exhibit the culinary skills of contestants from various universities from across Region 1 and the Province of Cagayan is set to spice up the event. It will include activities such as table setting, cake decorating, fruit and vegetable carving, local cuisine cook-off and dessert bake-off. This food expo offers free admission.
