UNC YOUTH ON A MISSION HEALTH INITIATIVE - LIVE YUH LIFE - Cumuto/Manzanilla A programme deemed necessary to ensure the benefit and survival of our youth, the ‘Live Yuh Life’ health and fitness initiative is a campaign led by Trinidad and Tobago’s Attorney General Senator the Honorable Anand Ramlogan in collaboration with the UNC Youth Arm –Youth on a Mission Chairman Mr.Nicholas Morris. Globally ‘health’ has come to the forefront as one of those issues that must be dealt with immediately, as neglect can lead to the dire and detrimental consequences. According to the World Health Organization, Health can be defined as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The UNC Youth Arm has been mandated to ensure youth participation in the political system as well as nation building exercises, via activities that simultaneously yield sustainable youth development. In recent years, a lot of focus has been places on ‘development’, yet, in order to move forward as a nation we must be ever mindful that our greatest capital and resource is our human resource. Over the period January –February 2014, the UNC Youth Arm has held three highly successful Health Fairs, providing free medical care to over 3000 less fortunate citizens along with a plethora of information as to healthy eating, and easily affordable local produce. This holistic approach to a health fair was based on our grassroots background and the fact that we as youth understand the many problems preventing our fellow citizens from achieving optimal health - the second health fair was held in Cumuto/Manzanilla On Saturday 15th February 2015 members of the UNC Youth on a Mission along with the UNC Youth Members of Cumuto/Manzanilla and MP Collin Partap held a health outreach program. The day’s events included diabetes and blood pressure testing, dental testing along with HIV and Lifestyle Disease awareness. Along with members of the Medical Profession the event was also attended by the Health Department of the University of Trinidad and Tobago who educated the public on a number of health issues along with information on its degree programs. This health day fulfils the commitment of the UNC Youth Arm to bettering the health of nations citizens which was stated in our Health Program Launch two weeks ago entitled Live yuh life. The Live Yuh Life Program was the brainchild of the Honourable Attorney General along with the UNC Youth on a Mission. This Program is aimed at providing education and also fights for the eradication of lifestyle diseases while also assisting our youth in making better health choices. This Health Outreach Program is the second in two weeks and marks the UNC Youth on a Missions commitment to our nation’s health and wellness. The Youth Arm will continue its nationwide health caravan as we seek to make Trinidad and Tobago a happier and healthier nation. The day’s events were brought to an end on a high as the UNC Youth on a Mission presented two new desktop computers to two less fortunate families in keeping with its bridging the digital divide program. The UNC Youth Arm has become the only Youth Group in Trinidad and Tobago to fulfill and undertake the UN commitment of bridging the digital divide as it has provided over 55 computers to the less fortunate in the past three years. Your UNC Youth Arm will intensify and continue its work which is geared at serving the beautiful people of this great nation.
