UNDER 12 LEAGUE Ballybofey United 0 - 4 Cappry Rovers Ballybofey Utd hosted their local rivals at Finn Valley AC today in this much anticipated fixture. Both teams started brightly but it was Cappry who had the first shot on goal with Mark Mbuli, following up on a through ball from Jamie Murray, testing Ryan Galvin in the Ballybofey goal but the Utd netminder was alert to the threat. The Blues settled into the game and began to push forward with Josh McMenamin and Lucas McSorley linking up well. However, the deadlock was broken midway through the first half when a deflection off the Utd defence diverted the ball into the box and the resulting scramble saw the ball poked into the Ballybofey net. The home side responded well, pushing forward and testing the well-drilled Cappry defence. They came close at the endof the 1st half after they earned a free kick on the edge of the Cappry box, with Karl Doherty curling the ball around the Cappry wall only for Joe Gillespie to push the ball away from the top corner of the visitors net. With only one goal in it at halftime, the game was far from over & it was a close affair for the opening 15 minutes of the 2nd half until Rovers Oisin McGlinchey & Jamie Murray played a number of crosses into the Utd penalty box. Despite some superb defending by Ballybofeys Karolis Reuka & Mark McBride, the breaking ball was met by Mbuli who netted two goals in as many minutes. The home side made a number of changes and created several chances but didnt take them. Cappry hit the home side on the counter attack with two minutes remaining with Murray again making all the running and despite a fine save by Galvin the ever alert Mbuli was there to meet the rebound. Both sides played good entertaining football with Marty McGarrigle officiating well and while the score may flatter the winners, Cappry did deserve to win on the day. Best for Ballybofey were Josh McMenamin & Ryan Galvin while Cappry had Mark Mbuli & man-of-the-match Jamie Murray at their best.
